Ballard Green Building Talk #4

featuring a rainwater catchment and potable water system

Presented by: Jim Bristow of Bristow Enterprises

Is rainwater harvesting right for you?

Puget Sound averages about 3 feet of rain per year, but 2/3 of it falls from November to March. The 2 inches we get per month in summer is not enough to keep edibles and ornamentals irrigated.

In this talk, sustainable living expert and rain catchment installer Jim Bristow will discuss cisterns, rain gardens, and other methods of diverting storm runoff and putting it to use. Following the talk, Jim will give a tour of an innovative cistern and filtration system he is constructing. When complete, the system will irrigate in the summer and provide 100% of his household water throughout the year.

You’ll leave this talk with the information you need to take advantage of generous city rebates, reduce harmful runoff, and slash your summer water bills.

Ballard Green Building Talks

The Ballard Green Building Talks bring together experts in the green building and renovation fields and members of the Ballard community interested in retrofitting their homes for energy efficiency. These short talks are held in neighborhood homes that have been retrofitted and are followed by a brief Q&A session and tour. The goal of the speaker series is to educate and to take the mystery out of green building by giving real-world examples of successful projects.
